**POSITION PURPOSE**

The Facility Support role is responsible for operating specialised equipment correctly, safely and in accordance with SOP's. This position is also responsible for the service area and will ensure that the major activities are carried out and processed in a timely manner.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure animal supplies are timely prepared in in accordance with the SOP's, including animal caging (scraping, washing, sterilising), water bottles and environmental enrichment (wash, prepare, sterilise), and any other consumables
- Correct operation of various equipment (tunnel washers, high pressure washer) and other laboratory equipment
- Ensure the availability of adequate supplies is maintained
- Assist with the daily receipting of incoming and outgoing goods, inspection and storage
- Coordinate the disposal of all waste and recycling, laundering of laboratory gowns & towels for the facility
- Coordinate the routine maintenance and trouble shoot problems with regards to equipment used in the facility, including but not limited to; tunnel washers, high pressure washer, animal change stations etc., and all related information is stored and recorded
- Adhering to the SOPs, maintain the health status of facility by maintaining optimum levels of hygiene for the animals and the workspace
- Other duties as required from time to time

**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**

**Education/Qualifications
- The appointee will have:

- Completion of year 12 or trades certificate with relevant work experience; or
- a combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience, preferably in the animal or biomedical research industry.

**Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work with and maintain a range of mechanical equipment (i.e. tunnel washers, high pressure washer, etc)
- Ability to lift 20kgs for preparation of materials for sterilisation or removal and relocation of major equipment
- Ability to follow direction and work in accordance with strict Standard Operating Procedures
- An understanding of animal use in a Biomedical Research environment
- Proven time management and organisation skills
- A demonstrated capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in your workplace
- Moderate computer literacy skills

**OTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION
- Travel to other sites may be required
- There may be a requirement to work rosters work, overtime and out of hours work (including evenings, weekends and public holidays)
- There may be peak periods of work during which taking of leave may be restricted
- **Baseline medical will be required to all selected applicants along with police check**:
