**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**:
Reporting directly to the Youth Coordinator, the Youth Participation Officer is responsible for the implementation of the youth participation framework and to embed accessible and meaningful youth participation to improve outcomes for local young people. The position is responsible for delivering high quality programs, projects, initiatives, deliver on strategies and successful outputs for Council. The Youth Participation Officer will be held accountable for the successful delivery of key strategies, projects and initiatives across the following functions:

- Implementation of the Cumberland Youth Strategy including delivering actions relating to youth participation.
- Implementing the youth participation framework including in Council planning and decision making processes.
- Developing capacity-building programs to support young people to design, lead and deliver youth initiatives.
- Build the capacity of other Council staff and local services to increase the participation of young people.

The successful applicant will require:

- Tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development, social science or a related field.
- Valid Working with Children Check clearance.
- Demonstrated understanding of the youth sector and the needs, issues and legislation relating to young people 12 to 25 years including child protection, risk management, responding to incidents and disclosures.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in working with young people and families from a broad range of backgrounds including culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Demonstrated skills in facilitating the involvement of young people in the planning, delivery and evaluation of programs and activities.
- Demonstrated project and event management skills, including sound knowledge and experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of projects and events, and managing a diverse range of tasks with competing priorities and changing deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience working within a youth participation framework.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills, including ability to develop and maintain effective relationships, develop reports, formal correspondence, promotional material and presentations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, including high level knowledge and experience in report writing.
- High level administrative and organisational skills, including attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records and advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificate (or willing to obtain).

**Position information**: This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 70 hour fortnight, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement.

This position will be located at the Merrylands Office and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations, with occasional travel required across Council worksites. You will be required to attend meetings, events and programs offsite. Please note that the attendance at meetings and engagement activities after operating hours will be required.

**Salary information**: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,435.72 to $1,651.07 per week, plus 10% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
