**THE POSITION**

The Religious Education Teacher - Primary is responsible for supporting the College Chaplain in the liturgical life of the Primary School. This will involve arranging opportunities for students and staff to experience and participate in services of worship and to participate in their planning

The spirituality of young people will, in the main, be nurtured through meaningful involvement in services of worship which may draw upon the creative arts and through the religious education program. All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church day school for students from Early Learning -12.

**Pastoral Care**
The Religious Education Teacher will make an important contribution to the pastoral care and welfare of the students, into the Primary School. This significant contribution will be in collaboration with other members of the Primary leadership and pastoral staff and the College Chaplain.

**Teaching**
The Religious Education Teacher will be responsible for the teaching of Religious Education for Primary students and the development of their own spirituality and Faith background. The RE program is aligned with the International Baccaulreate PYP (Primary Years Program).

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

- Be actively involved with the Principal, Primary Leadership Team, College Chaplain and teachers in a collegiate relationship for the good ordering of the College.
- Perform conscientiously and competently the duties, both teaching and non-teaching, assigned by the Head of Primary.
- Provide worship support for primary students and early years students as requested or required.
- Foster the Christian ethos of the College.
- When deemed necessary prepare and lead prayers and reflections for some whole College celebrations; for example Founder’s Day and opening ceremonies.
- Assist and encourage students and staff in their faith journey.
- Help foster good relations and a spirit of unity between parents, the community and the College.
- Be actively involved in supporting the College’s co-curricular activities and events.
- Prepare contributions as appropriate College publications as appropriate.
- Participate in meetings relevant to the position.
- Contribute to the Mission of the Uniting Church by involvement in such committees and activities as will enhance the development of the College's Christian ethos.
- Take part in professional development activities and other in-service courses provided by the College or recommend by the Uniting Church in Australia or related bodies.

**SPECIFIC TASKS**
- Work with teaching and learning colleagues to develop the Religious Education program to develop and implement an RE curriculum, P-6 as part of the International Baccaulreate PYP (Primary Years Program).
- Collaboratively plan Services of Worship for students and staff with the College Chaplain and when required the MBBC Chaplain and RE Teacher.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of special worship celebrations.
- When required, assist with the planning and presentation of Assemblies.
- Lead prayer for staff as needed.
- Support the staff and students in the Early Learning Centre as required;
- and any other tasks as agreed upon by the Principal and Head of Primary.

**SELECTION CRITERIA**
- a professional qualification in Religious Education or Education;
- have excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with children in educational settings;
- pastoral skills and understandings which will enable her/him to exercise pastoral care both for young people and adults;
- an ability to work as a member of a team in the school community and with local parish clergy where appropriate;
- be able to articulate their personal faith and spirituality with students, staff and parents;
- have interest or experience in curriculum development particularly with respect to planning developmental worship and RE programs that is relevant and appropriate to students’ age;
- ability to teach primary age children demonstrated through classroom teaching experience.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
- The Primary _Religious Education Teacher
- should have_
- experience in classrooms
- experience in relevant church or chaplaincy role
- an understanding of the International Baccaulreate PYP (Primary Years Program) would be an advantage.

**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
- An appropriate teaching degree
- Registration with, or ability to register with, the Queensland College of Teachers

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
