Natural Areas Officer, commences ASAP. It will extend to at least 7 April.

It is a 9-day fortnight role, starting at 6am and finishing at 3pm.
- Perform the assigned duties to achieve the City’s objectives for the efficient and effective management and maintenance of the City’s bushland, riverine and coastal areas in accordance with Council policies, strategic documents and requirements of Council.
- Support the appropriate management of the City’s natural areas to achieve land management outcomes that respect Nyoongar traditional ownership and custodianship of land and waters.

**Duties will include**:

- Gather accurate data and maintain accurate works records to effectively monitor, audit and report on natural areas including conducting flora and / or fauna assessments, photo monitoring, mapping, and infrastructure and amenity condition reporting.
- Identify a wide range of native plants and weeds, plant pests and diseases of the municipality, provide technical advice to support and undertake best practice weed, plant pest and disease control.
- Support the development and implementation of pest management plans, including animal pests.
- Undertake site works including pruning, rubbish removal, site clean-up and minor fencing and construction work.
- Support the planning of and implement revegetation works including;
- Costing of works.
- Laying out of plants with attention to plants requirements, community structure and landscape function.
- Planting, mulching, monitoring.
- Weeding, watering, staking and laying matting and brushing.
- Collection, preparation and storage of seed of local native plants.
- Vegetative propagation of native plants.
- Attend and support community event days to implement re-vegetation and natural areas maintenance works.
- Provide technical advice to support the development and implementation of management plans throughout the municipality.
- Support land management outcomes that respect Nyoongar traditional ownership and custodianship of land and waters.
- Operate all equipment and machinery classified at level 4 and below in accordance with City’s Outside Workforce Agreement.
- Provide onsite training and induction to contractors and community.
- Ensure that you work safely, complying with all Council’s work health and safety policies and procedures.

**Other**
- Perform additional duties as required.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Tertiary/TAFE qualifications and / or equivalent in natural resource, conservation or bushland management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in maintaining bushland, riverine and/or coastal environments within the urban environment.
- Knowledge of revegetation and ecological restoration practices within bushland, riverine and / or coastal environments.
- Sound communication skills to facilitate and encourage community participation in conservation and land management activities.
- Ability to operate as an effective and productive team member.
- Ability to adhere to safe work practices and traffic management principals where required.
- Working knowledge of computer packages within the MS Office environment, including Word and Excel, and ability to learn how to use corporate software systems.
- A current WA ‘C’ class driver’s licence.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term, Casual
Contract length: 3-6 weeks

**Salary**: $31.00 - $35.00 per hour
