Health Information Services (HIS) is a secure department that is open seven days a week. HIS provides the hospital with a number of services including:
- The retrieval, supply, and maintenance of medical records, both electronic and paper based, to facilitate direct patient care
- Providing and maintaining an efficient record storage system in which patient information is kept safe from loss, damage, and unauthorized access
- The provision of health information to both internal and external requestors for ongoing patient care, research, planning, education, freedom of information requests, and other purposes in accordance with hospital policies and statutory requirements
- The clinical coding of all admitted episodes of care
**Your contribution**
Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Coordination of the coding education and auditing portfolio
- To develop and implement an internal coding audit plan and schedule
- Participating in the education of clinical staff regarding Activity Based Funding (ABF) and documentation requirements when working in an EMR environment
- Prepare and present relevant educational material to coding team and other HIS stakeholders
**About you**
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in clinical coding and ABF related tasks (with some experience in the coding of obstetric, neonatal, and gynaecological episodes)
- Eligible for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia
- Comprehensive working knowledge of both an electronic and a scanned medical record
- Expert knowledge of Australian Coding Standards, ICD-10-AM and ACHI classification system
- Thorough understanding of ABF principles, current DRG grouper logic, and current Department of Health publications, in particular the annually published Criteria for Reporting
- Access to and knowledge of the Victorian ICD Coding Committee (VICC) advice along with the national advice published by the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA)
- Knowledge of and commitment to quality management principles
- Excellent computing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and teaching experience
- Demonstrably excellent written and verbal communication abilities

**Influenza Vaccination Requirement**
In line with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, some health care workers are now required to have their flu vaccination to work in health care. Evidence of vaccination is required.
As this role fits into category C of the departments risk ratings, applicants are strongly encouraged (although not required) to be vaccinated against influenza.)
