**Key Relationships The Deputy Head of Preparatory School: Teaching and Learning is**
responsible to the Head of Preparatory School and works closely with
the Director of Learning and the Director of Teaching. The Deputy Head
of Preparatory School: Teaching and Learning is a member of the School
Management Group and the Preparatory School Leadership Team and
works closely with Curriculum coordinators, teaching staff and support
staff.
**_Position Objective _**
The Deputy Head of Preparatory School: Teaching and Learning has responsibility for the effective delivery of
teaching and learning and student outcomes in the Preparatory School, as well as facilitating the day-to-day
operations of the school. As an exceptional, relational leader, the Deputy Head of Preparatory School:
Teaching and Learning will advise, guide and mentor curriculum leaders and educators to maintain and
improve teaching and learning from Transition to Year 6, in line with the whole school direction. This position
deputises for the Head of Preparatory School and is a key leadership position at Westminster School.
**_Key Responsibilities _**
**1. Leadership at Westminster School**
- Collaborates in fostering the school’s vision of becoming an internationally recognised learning
community, contributing to the strategic plan’s development, monitoring, and updates.
- Advocates and influences staff to fully embrace and take collective ownership of the school’s vision,
purpose, goals, and strategic direction.
- Exemplifies school values through leadership, impact, and how we treat others.
- Communicates effectively across diverse groups in both the school and broader community, building
strong partnerships.
- Makes informed decisions through thorough data analysis, strategic planning, and reflective
practice.
- Champions innovation in areas of teaching, learning, and wider school initiatives.
**2. Preparatory School Leadership**
- Supports daily operations, including discipline at Level 4, facility upkeep, regulatory compliance, and policy
adherence.
- Provides mentorship and coaching that fosters professional growth and creates a dynamic, inclusive learning
environment.
- Implements school policies and objectives aligned with the school’s Charter and strategic direction, in
collaboration with staff and leadership.
- Strategically advances school initiatives in Adventurous Learning and the Capability Compass.
- Assists with staff recruitment, performance management, and retention.
- Participates in school tours, emphasizing Westminster’s unique strengths and values.
**3. Student Learning Management**
- Guides regular reviews of the academic program to ensure alignment with external standards and
stakeholder expectations.
- Oversees communication of curriculum and course information in collaboration with the Director of Learning.
- Promotes curriculum innovations grounded in research and contemporary best practices.
- Manages assessment and reporting systems, including proofreading student reports.
- Supports full implementation and ongoing improvement of the Learning Management System (LMS) and
continuous reporting.
- Ensures consistent tracking, reporting, and analysis of student progress and learning outcomes.
- Uses data insights to inform decisions and raise academic standards.
**4. Teaching & Professional Growth**
- Partners with the Director of Teaching to identify and lead professional development priorities.
- Models best practices in teaching and learning through leading professional development activities.
- Builds teacher capacity to boost student achievement and effective resource use.
- Cultivates a high-performance culture focused on deep learning, continuous improvement, and knowledge
sharing.
- Supports reflective teaching practices and coordinates lesson observations and student feedback processes.
- Plans timely, relevant professional learning that promotes school-wide improvement.
