**Key Relationships**
The Preparatory School Deputy: Wellbeing and Pastoral Care is
responsible to the Head of Preparatory School, working closely with
the other Preparatory School Deputies, the Head of Wellbeing, the
School’s counselling team and all teaching staff. The Deputy
Wellbeing and Pastoral Care manages and leads the Heads of House
and the Coordinator of Wellbeing. The position line manages
teaching staff from the Transition Team, Year 1, 3 and 5. All staff
are ultimately responsible to the Principal.
**_Position Objective: _**
The Preparatory School Deputy: Wellbeing and Pastoral Care takes responsibility for the behaviour,
pastoral care and wellbeing of students within the Preparatory School to ensure the smooth, effective
running of the Preparatory School. This includes behaviour management. Wellbeing support, overseeing
a comprehensive wellbeing program and support staff with high level student behaviours.
All teachers at Westminster School have primary responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning,
assessment and reporting in the School. The status of the teacher as a professional with high order
knowledge in the disciplines taught underpins the duties ascribed.
Leaders at Westminster are professionals who are expected to role model the highest standards of
personal presentation, preparation for teaching and learning, and punctuality. They are highly adept at
building positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues alike.
**_Key Responsibilities: _**
**1. General**
- Undertake a range of teaching and leadership tasks as determined by the Head of the
Preparatory School
- Support the Head of Preparatory School and the Senior Leadership Team in their vision for the
School and play an active role in the promotion and marketing of the Primary program at
Westminster School
- Support staff with student handling and pastoral care issues
- Oversee student pastoral care and discipline matters for following the principles and guidelines of the
Behaviour Management Policy when handling instances of non-compliance with School codes of
behaviour and uniform. Liaise with the Head of Preparatory School regarding matters involving high
- level behaviour issues
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues, encouraging wellbeing
- Communicate and liaise with parents on a range of issues
- Serve on relevant committees and bodies both within and outside the School
- Participate in appropriate Preparatory School and whole-School community events.
**2. Curriculum leadership**
- In collaboration with the Director of Learning, the Deputy Teaching and Learning and the Preparatory
School’s Coordinator for Wellbeing, ensure that staff incorporate the essential knowledge, skills and
understanding of the Australian curriculum into Wellbeing and Pastoral Care teaching and learning
programs and align these with the Westminster Teaching and Learning framework,
- Model progressive and constructive pedagogy.
**3. Wellbeing and Pastoral Care**:
- Work collaboratively with teaching and co-curricular staff to embed practices that actively support
- student wellbeing
- Liaise and consult with parents, staff and students concerning student wellbeing and pastoral needs
- and address parent concerns from particular year levels.
- Collate and appropriately disseminate confidential details re students in the year levels.
- Keep oversight of the pastoral interests of students by liaising with parents and specialist staff
- Maintain appropriate student records and documentation on the School’s Learning Management

- Support the House Heads to deliver high impact house meetings and events
- Work collaboratively with the Preparatory School’s Coordinator of Wellbeing, Deputy Teaching and
Learning, and Head of Preparatory School to develop a cohesive overall Preparatory School Wellbein
