The Social Workers Registration Board of South Australia (SWRB SA) is a regulatory body. The decisions and actions made by the Board will impact the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. In recognition of this, the Board intends to establish an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee (The Committee) that can work alongside to fulfil the functions of registration.
Working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people refers to collaborating in respectful and inclusive ways, acknowledging culture, values, and ways of being, knowing and doing. It also means a partnership where the Board and the Committee contribute their knowledge and skills in a way that promotes mutual understanding and respect. The SWRB SA is seeking Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to form this Committee.
**The proposed purpose of the Committee is to**:
- Foster respect and understanding between the Social Workers Registration Board and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Collaborate and make decisions with the Board on matters related to registration and concerns for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Consider and provide advice on issues referred to it by the Board to support fair, timely and culturally appropriate outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by the Act.
**The SWRB SA is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Committee Member and encourage the following people to apply**:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Social Worker eligible for full registration with the Board.
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with strong knowledge of human services and social work legislation.
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a legal training background.
The Committee is likely to meet approximately six times a year and will need dedicated time for pre-meeting preparation, committee members will be remunerated for meeting times. Please note any person employed by a State Government organisation is not entitled to be paid for Committee meetings without the specific approval of the CE, DPC, and the support of the responsible Minister.

The Social Workers Registration Board of South Australia (SWRB SA) was established under the Social Workers Registration Act 2021. The Board will regulate registered social workers through a quality practice framework and by responding to public concerns and employer reports. The mission of the SWRB SA is to enhance public safety, ensure accountability, and promote professionalism and excellence in social work practice.
