- Salary Academic Level B ($110,868 - $131,659) + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements
- Based at the Melbourne CBD campus.

About the Role

The Lecturer will make a significant contribution to the teaching and research efforts of the Interior Design Discipline and the School of Architecture and Urban Design. The lecturer will actively contribute to the innovative culture of the discipline through practice based, engaged and vertically integrated scholarship involving students, staff, practitioners and industries.

More specifically, the Lecturer is responsible for developing, leading, and undertaking teaching activities within Undergraduate, Masters and Graduate Diploma programs and for advancing their practice based scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities in alignment with the University’s strategic aims. The Lecturer will have an important role in the engagement activities of the discipline by establishing and maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic, industry and professional communities.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

- Demonstrated research and teaching experience in the field of Interior Design or related spatial discipline, with a particular focus on practice-based research that engages with emergent contexts, techniques and/or technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.
- Ability to undertake course coordination roles.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
- Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by creative works, publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.

About the School

The School of Architecture and Urban Design delivers innovative scholarship in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and related fields of design.

Innovation in learning and teaching is a key strength of the school. Practice-based and vertically integrated scholarship involving students, staff and practitioners provides an engagement in research-led design projects. This enables students to operate as empowered studio collaborators in the pursuit of design knowledge and skills. The School continues to innovate with recent additions of new Masters degrees including the Master of Interior Design, Master of Urban Design.

Discipline of Interior Design: RMIT Interior Design is concerned with the social, cultural, material, technological, and temporal conditions of the spaces we inhabit. Students address pressing global challenges relevant to interior design, examining the complex relationships between people, their environments, and other living entities through innovative studio-based learning guided by academic and industry leaders. The discipline stream includes the Bachelor of Interior Design (Hons), Master of Interior Design, and PhD by practice research. The discipline staff is currently composed of 13 academics who have practice backgrounds in interior design, architecture, curation, installation art, sculpture, digital design, history and writing.
