About the role
**Key responsibilities**:
Undertake pastoral visitation of consumers who are in need of pastoral care
Coordinate and provide relevant spiritual activities for consumers.
Facilitate the presence of a consumer’s own minister, priest or religious leader in his/her spiritual care.
Conduct visitation of consumers who are admitted to hospital.
Provide support and debriefing to staff.
Conduct or attend funerals as required.
Be available to provide spiritual and emotional support.
Liaise and cooperate with other staff in matters relating to care of consumer’s physical, spiritual, recreational or cultural needs.
**Essential criteria**:
Relevant theological and/or pastoral qualifications such as successful completion of the chaplaincy program at Christ College, one or more units in Clinical Pastoral Education or their equivalent
Commitment to Christ and active membership of a church
Previous pastoral experience preferably in an aged care setting
Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to listen and empathise with consumers, consumers’ families and staff.
Ability to lead spiritual activities such as worship services, Bible studies, special events and funeral services if required and to conduct pastoral visitation of residents
Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary care team
Passion for helping and improving the lives of older people
**Desirable criteria**:
Musical abilities and administrative skills
Ability to conduct the Spiritual Care Series for the purposes of training pastoral care volunteers and staff.
