Working closely with a diverse and dynamic AOD team, the _AOD Counsellor_ will support our clients (youths) to meet their individual goals through outreach appointments in the community and within clients homes. You will also spend time attending schools and counselling school based clients, as well as preparing and presenting to the broader student community. Your duties will include:
- Reducing AOD related harm to individuals and their families.
- Promoting recovery and identifying a range of co-occurring mental health, social and primary health issues associated with substance use, and providing integrated and collaborative counselling and support to address these.
- Providing a welcoming, hopeful, empathic, strength-based, family-inclusive, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, culturally appropriate, and co-occurring capable service.
- Outreach is a requirement of this position. Our clients range from 16 year to 25 years and require home and/or school visits at appropriate intervals to support then in their recovery.
- Utilising your effective counselling skills and methodologies to support and encourage clients to develop their coping mechanisms and coordinate any other health and social services they may require during and after recovery, whilst you engage in sharing information and assisting the team with shared information.
**Qualifications**:
We are looking for a part or full time Counsellor with **experience working with complex clients (AOD/mental health/Family Violence) aged 16 to 25 years**, and a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Harm Reduction principles and strategies, with particular understanding of relevance to clients with co-occurring conditions.
Mandatory Qualification/s and/or Certifications
- Minimum Diploma in Counselling and Cert IV AOD
- Social Work, Psychology, and advanced dip in AOD are favourable.
- A current Working With Children’s Check is essential
- Have full Australian working rights and a National Police Clearance
- Australian Drivers Licence
