About the College

RMIT’s College of Business and Law takes an industry and student-centred approach to its courses and programs, ensuring graduates are work ready and able to tackle business challenges, balance stakeholder needs, act as socially responsible global citizens and create fair and positive futures for all.
- The College delivers impactful research informed by industry, which supports its strong position as a College at the intersection of business and technology with social impact. Its important work is underpinned by the principles of quality, collaboration, big ideas and putting people first.
- As one of the largest Business Schools in the Asia Pacific region, the College is comprised of five schools - four in Melbourne and one in Vietnam - and delivers a broad range of programs in Business and Law, ranging from Degree to PHD levels.
- The College’s Business and Law programs are delivered in Melbourne, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi (on RMIT campuses in Vietnam), RMIT Online and with partner institutions in Singapore and Shanghai. The College employs over 1000 staff and delivers programs to over 28,000 students.
- The College’s central operations are located at RMIT University’s City Campus in Melbourne and reside in the Swanston Academic and Emily McPherson buildings.

About the role
- This executive leadership position is accountable for the strategic direction, education and research activities of the Graduate School of Business and Law.
- The School offers Undergraduate Law, Juris Doctor, MBA and Executive MBA programs on campus and online as well as a variety of short courses. There are research centres anchored in and affiliated with the School.
- The School is staffed by a team of cross discipline law and business academics and is supported by a dedicated team of professional staff. The Dean is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the College and University to plan and develop programs and commercial activities and to ensure the viability of the School’s activity.
- The Dean is a critical member of the College Executive team and member of the Vice Chancellor Executive Leadership Forum, providing leadership for the Graduate School of Business & Law, College and University. The Dean of School is responsible for all commercial activities, including revenue and expenditure, operations, academic staff leadership, teaching and research performance, and external engagement (including accrediting bodies) in line with University and College strategy and objectives.

To be successful in this position you will have:
- Proven successful senior leadership experience in an academic leadership role (in a law or business discipline), with distinguished academic achievements.-
- Demonstrable ability to develop and implement a successful vision and business plan which aligns with University ambitions.-
- Significant professional standing in areas relevant to the School including demonstrated capacity to build and foster research activity-
- Experience with accreditation bodies either The Law Institute of Victoria (or equivalent in other jurisdiction) or MBA / Business School accreditation-
- Track record of collaboration and outcomes with industry, business and/or government-
- Demonstrable ability in managing and developing a large complement of academic and professional staff including the implementation of effective governance structures with transparent decision-making processes.-
- Outstanding leadership skills, including capacity to initiate, lead and manage change in a challenging and dynamic environment while striving to achieve strategic objectives.-
