**The Role**

If so, you might be the person we are looking for to be an APS6 Technician within Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, located in Canberra, Darwin, Cairns, Osborne and Rockingham.

APS 6 Technical professionals are accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex technical work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

An APS 6 Technical professional may be a team coach or lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They will exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.

An APS 6 Technical professional will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

As an APS 6 Technical professional you will be required to demonstrate a range of skills, however the specific competencies below are considered critical to success within APS Technical roles.
- **Write and report **- write clearly and succinctly, convince through writing, avoid jargon and structure information.
- **Analyse** - analyse information, probe for clarity, produce solutions, make judgements and think systemically.
- **Learn and research** - learn and understand rapidly, gather information, manage knowledge and ensure an organisational learning approach.
- **Plan and organise** - set objectives, plan and establish contingencies, manage time, resources and people, and monitor progress.
