**Position Duties**

The Assistant Manager provides support to the Operations Manager for production and certification activities pertaining to ACIRS' reference materials, ensuring ACIRS' management and technical policies and procedures are applied in accordance with ACIRS’ Quality Management System. This may include, but is not limited to:

- Providing support for reference material production and certification activities, including assessment of homogeneity, data analysis in assignment of certified values and their uncertainties, and monitoring product stability
- Management of reference material production and subcontractors
- Preparing reports for the Operations Manager and Technical Advisory Group
- Internal reviews, audits, corrective action investigations and continuous improvement activities
- Customer complaint resolution
- Validation of software
- Staff training

**Skills and Competencies**

Skills and competencies essential to the position include:

- Strong working knowledge (or ability to obtain such knowledge) of ISO 17034 and/or ISO 9001 standards and associated guidelines, and/or ISO/IEC 17025 and relevant standard test methods for coal analysis and preparation
- Quality Management and internal auditing skills and/or qualifications
- Strong teamwork, data analysis, technical report writing, and communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills

The following skills and competencies are desirable but not essential:

- An understanding of the role of reference materials in the quality control of analytical measurements
- An understanding of how to manage an operation and its financial outcomes
- Knowledge of coal analysis and sampling

**Educational Requirements**

Educational requirements for this position include a tertiary degree in science or engineering (chemistry/chemical preferred). Data science/data analytics qualifications as well as quality management and internal auditing qualifications are desired

**Relationships**

The Assistant Manager is supervised by the Operations Manager and has no direct reports. The Assistant Manager will interact with all layers of the organisation, technical experts within the coal industry, coal testing laboratories and accreditation bodies.

**Nature of Employment**

The expected hours may be in the order of 15 - 30 hours per month, depending on business demands, with flexibility to meet the variable time requirements of the business. The successful applicant would be engaged by way of a services agreement. The business is based in the ACPS office in Newcastle and as such, a person based in the Lower Hunter would be preferred.
