Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) are seeking a suitably qualified and professional new leader to join their Utilities ‘Operations Team’. Situated on the Mid North Coast of NSW, between Coffs Harbour and Newcastle, PMHC is one of the fastest growing regional centres in NSW.

**The Utilities Network**
Our Community Utilities section has 150+ staff who manage, operate and maintain our large utilities network, this includes; Treatment Plants (4 Water, 8 Sewage and 1 Recycled Water), 20 water pump stations, 45 reservoirs, 840 km of water mains, 34,500 water service connections, 167+ sewage pump stations, over 665 km of sewerage pipes and 13,900 manholes.

Our Community Utilities have their own Engineering Trades Services Team which includes a SCADA/telemetry staff, and a team of electricians and fitters on board with a dedicated workshop. We have a local NATA accredited lab and a leadership development program.

**The Opportunity**
As the Operations Manager, you will lead 3 direct & 30 indirect staff, accountable for the daily operations, maintenance and repairs of Council’s water and sewer assets, to ensure a positive level of service for the community.

Working collaboratively with a supportive leadership team charged with operating a $1billion+ utilities network delivering essential services. This position reports into the Group Manager Utilities Operations, with 10+ years in the industry who reports into the Director Community Utilities, an experienced and supportive leader who has worked at PMHC for 30+ years.

Council is utilising state-of-the-art maintenance technologies including an annual ice pigging program for water mains cleaning, a significant relining program within sewerage mains and an I&I investigation program in areas of identified high flows.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide operational maintenance and repair services for water and sewer infrastructure across the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council local government area
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Councils Water and Sewer Management Plans
- Manage people and their performance, to harness their individual and group potential to an optimal level
- Manage financial targets for the group and contribute to financial objectives for the team/section which contribute to the framework for strategic decision making, financial sustainability and objective setting.
- Ensure the after-hours and on-call services are well managed, participation in the on-call roster will be required
- Deliver capital projects in accordance with the adopted Project Management Framework

- A competitive salary package is available, this includes:

- an Annual Base salary up to $127,451 + 11% super
- + 3.5% civil liability allowance
- + an on-call allowance and call-out payments
- + a vehicle allowance of $8,580 per annum (or access to a leaseback vehicle)

**Criteria**
To be considered you will have:

- degree level qualifications in either Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Science (or similar)
- demonstrated experience working in the utilities sector, managing the daily operations, maintenance and repairs of water and sewer assets
- proven leadership experience (mentoring or supervising of staff/subcontractors)
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- the ability to work on an on-call/after-hours roster
- exposure to the preparation of Review of Environmental Factors and working knowledge of various NSW based legislation, including the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the Water Management Act - (preferred)
