PEER is a not-for-profit industry-based organisation, a Group Training Organisation (GTO) and National award-winning Registered Training Organisation (RTO), delivering nationally accredited training packages to meet South Australia’s skill development needs.
**The Opportunity**
We are seeking an experienced Work Health Safety Manager to develop and implement the Workplace Health Safety Management System and practices, manage and oversee the Injury Management and Return to Work systems and lead a small team. You will play a key role in ensuring the wellbeing of all apprentices and corporate staff through developing, implementing, and maintaining our health and safety programs to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.
Reporting to the General Manager, People & Culture, key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans to achieve physical and psychosocial WHS culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.
- Provide leadership and promote a culture of safety across our apprentices, host employers and corporate staff
- Provide expert advice for all health and safety matters
- Conduct training needs analysis and provide WHS training and education to apprentices, hosts and corporate staff
- Conducting regular safety audits and inspections
- Lead the Injury Management and Return-to-Work (RTW) function
- Investigating workplace incidents and implementing corrective actions
- Develop and implement WHS policies and procedures
- Represent PEER on various industry bodies and engage with external stakeholders
**About You**:
- A tertiary qualification or a minimum of Cert 4 (or higher) in WHS
- Certification in workplace injury management, return to work coordination, or rehabilitation coordination.
- Internal audit qualification and/or experience (or willing to undertake training)
- Proven experience in workplace health and safety, with strong knowledge of WHS legislation, guidelines and standards. Preference within a technical trade based and/or GTO/RTO environment preferable.
- Proven people leadership and communication to provide safe and supportive work environments with a united and collaborative culture
- Ability to conduct audits, risk assessments, and provide practical safety solutions
- Strong data analysis and report writing skills
- Mental Health First Aid Accreditation or equivalent highly regarded.
You will also need:
- Federal Police check
- Working with Children check
