**Primary Purpose of the Role**
The Tenant Advocate is primarily responsible for providing culturally safe advice, advocacy, community education, and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with tenancy problems.

***About the Role**
The Tenant Advocate is part of the Greater Sydney Aboriginal Tenants Service team within the Civil Law Practice.

The Tenants Advocate will be responsible for:

- Provide advice, advocacy, community education, and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with their tenancy matters
- Contribute to service delivery strategies which ensure access for all Aboriginal tenants
- Identify the appropriate advice, advocacy, and community education needs of Aboriginal tenants and clients
- Work cooperatively with other staff members to provide outreach, duty advocacy, and community education services
- Liaise with regional networks, other tenant's advice services in NSW, the Aboriginal Resource Unit, and the Tenants Union to coordinate the delivery of Community Education services

***About You**
We’re looking for someone who brings:

- **Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander**:

- **Previous experience with the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT)**:

- Understanding and appreciation of the role and functions of the Aboriginal Tenant Advice and Advocacy Services together with a good understanding of the relevant tenancy legislation and policies
- Understanding of the public, social, and private sector rental housing issues and challenges affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Knowledge of support and referral services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, including those who are homeless or about to become homeless and those affected by family or domestic violence
- Experience in the preparation and delivery of community education and Outreach
