**Job Description**:
As a senior member of the Nine News Editing team, the Shift Leader allocates staff to the news stories of the day and is the go-to person for the Executive Producer, Producers and Reporters on shift in the newsroom.

You need to display team leadership, attention to detail, working under pressure, problem solving all while cultivating a creative, positive, and productive environment.

Editing for news requires speed accuracy, creativity, and consistency of quality.

Using the AVID Media Composer and Cloud UX editing platforms, the Shift Leader is required to be strategic and dynamic to deliver an on-air product that aligns with the first-class brand that is Nine News and its associated programs.
- Responsible for the allocation of daily news editing responsibilities.
- The go to person for the newsroom editorial staff during each shift, including being the most senior team member on shift over the weekends.
- Have a strategic eye to ensure the best possible outcome for each daily editing requirement is achieved.
- Occasionally being asked to perform higher duties and cover the News Editing Supervisor role when they are on leave.
- Editing day to day material for Nine News programming including voice overs, grabs, overlay, graphics integration and packages.
- Occasionally working across other news and current affairs programming including: NBN News, The Today Show, Today Extra, ACA, 60 Minutes & Nine Programming.
- Editing of feature style packages across a range of program styles and including online.
- Work effectively with Producers and Reporters to provide concise, creative and accurate completion of content to a high technical standard within strict deadlines.
- Great understanding of how to craft narrative through editing.
- The ability to work unsupervised.
- Compiling of vision for archive and that it is delivered to the library.
- Ensure the accurate reporting of technical issues to management and/or engineering and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional communication style and shares information in a clear and consistent manner.
- Participates in a team environment, follows company policies and procedures, supports a safe and positive workplace culture and aligns with the Nine Values.
- Mentoring and training of new and senior editors.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**
- 5+ years’ experience in media production including working as a news editor.
- Extensive understanding of editing software, ideally AVID Media Composer or equivalent.
- In depth technical knowledge of media file formats and compression codecs.
- Ability to work a rotating roster involving early morning, late-night and weekend shifts.
- Collaborative team player who is also self-motivated and can work autonomously.
- A dedicated professional, positive, flexible and a proactive “can do” attitude.
- Able to plan and prioritise, work under pressure, solve problems and demonstrate initiative.

**Desirable**
- Tertiary qualifications in the areas of Television Production, Digital Media, or Communications - University or TAFE or equivalent professional experience.
- Previous news editing leadership experience is a bonus but not essential.
- A genuine passion for news and current affairs.
- An excellent understanding of video production equipment, techniques and formats.
