**Career Medical Officer HOPE/MAU Gosford**

Opportunity to join a developing unit dedicated to timely and efficient care of patients.

Gosford hospital is in the process of developing and enhancing several new models of care, focusing on the Health Care for Older Persons Earlier (HOPE) model as well as further development of the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU). We are actively seeking the services of a suitably experienced CMO to join us.

**Gosford Hospital** is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.

**Wyong Hospital** is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

**What you'll be doing**
- The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment.
- Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
- You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford, Wyong, Woy Woy and Long Jetty Hospitals.
- Rotational terms for the Career Medical Officer General Medicine at Central Coast Local Health District may include: General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Assessment Unit, Cardiology, Emergency, Relief (including evening and night shifts for medical after hours cover) with relief in Respiratory, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology and Medical Oncology and ICU. The Career Medical Officer General Medicine clinical year consists of 4 terms across the CCLHD.
- CCLHD has a strong commitment to vocational training and career support; term allocation is based on submitted preferences, operational requirements, training needs and future aspirations of the Career Medical Officers. Good general experience is provided in all CCLHD hospitals. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday with rostered ward overtime, night shifts and on-call to cover sick relief for ward overtime. All overtime shifts are evenly distributed amongst the Career Medical Officers.
- The Career Medical Officer is responsible for co-ordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients within the unit; the day-to-day assessment and management of the patients, maintaining high levels of communication with patients and family regarding the nature of their condition and its treatment; communicating and coordinating care with the team; arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate; and arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community based care modalities in order to ensure the provision of optimal patient care within CCLHD.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
