As the largest grain storage and handling network on the east coast of Australia, we operate more than 150 regional receival sites and seven bulk port terminals. We store and market wheat, barley, canola, sorghum and specialty commodities, connecting over 10,000 growers with more than 1,000 end-market customers across the food, beverage, edible oils and animal feed industries. **About the role**
The National Grain Husbandry Manager provides technical leadership and support on grain husbandry to GrainCorp’s port and country-based grain protection teams operating throughout QLD, NSW, VIC and SA.
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the role may be flexibly based from any of the following locations: QLD (Mackay, Gladstone, Brisbane, Toowoomba), NSW (Tamworth, Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga) or VIC (Geelong, Portland, Marong).
Specifically, you will:
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory, regulatory and company requirements relating to chemical and fumigant use within GrainCorp’s country and port operations
- Establish and maintain grain protection and pest control standards, communicating these to the business and monitoring compliance
- Provide technical leadership / support to our national grain protection team on grain husbandry (chemical use, resistance management, site hygiene)
- Work closely with the GrainCorp procurement team in managing vendor relationships and informing procurement needs
- Manage chemical and fumigant inventory including forecasting, planning and ordering of same
- Investigate, recommend and project manage introduction of new technologies related to insect control, monitoring, etc.
The role requires extensive travel across our east coast operations; roughly 1-2 weeks in a month.
**About your experience**
Additional requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant science discipline + fumigation / pest control qualification (or willing to obtain)
- Technical knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements (eg. APVMA, EPA) and State-based pest control, licensing and chemical use requirements (QLD, NSW and/or VIC)
- Awareness of approved methods for modelling and assessment of air pollutants relating to fumigation systems; understanding of impacts of modelling on a business
- Knowledge of dangerous goods and hazardous substances storage, transportation and handling requirements
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts; coach and train others; manage projects and stakeholders.
