**About the opportunity**

The appointee will contribute to developing and delivering teaching and professional training programs in volcanology, sedimentology and natural hazards with appropriate guidance from the course or program coordinator. This effort aligns with the University’s commitment to preparing Earth Science graduates required to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and fulfil future workforce demand in Australia.

This position offers the exciting opportunity to work within the Centre for Ore Deposit and Earth Sciences (CODES) at the University of Tasmania. The successful applicant will have access to world-class resources and expertise and will be part of a dynamic team that fosters a culturally productive and collaborative environment. The appointee will be at the forefront of research at the nexus of volcanic and magmatic systems and use that unique perspective to address critical resources challenges of the future.

**What you’ll do**:

- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Undertake high-quality research/scholarly activities under limited supervision either independently or as a member of a team, publish research findings as sole author or in collaboration, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations for Level A.
- Undertake scholarly undergraduate coursework teaching of a high quality, including consultation with students, marking and assessment connected with courses taught, production of teaching materials, and development of course material with appropriate guidance from the course or program coordinator.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

**What we’re looking for**:

- A PhD in a relevant field.
- A demonstrated ability and understanding of research in the field of volcanology, magmatism and numerical modelling, demonstrated by a strong academic record.
- Experience in University-level tutoring and learning within the field of expertise.
- A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive networks with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.
- Potential to contribute to and/or obtain external funding as a co
- or lead investigator
- Contribute to volcanology teaching at undergraduate level

**Salary details**

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $ 125,877 comprising base salary within the range of $ 83,198 to $ 107,587 plus 17% superannuation.
