**About this role**:

The quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers and leaders as they have the largest and second largest in-school impact on student outcomes respectively. Given their capability and effectiveness will characterise the success of the system, developing their classroom practice and instructional leadership is a key enabler for the department’s school improvement model which is central to achieving our world-class ambition.
The Assistant Director will lead, manage, and oversee the delivery of high-quality professional learning for leaders and teachers aligned with the department’s strategic priorities. The Assistant Director, Orbis will use research and evidence to co-design, deliver and evaluate high quality PLD, embedded in practice, that builds capability, influences behavioural change and is a catalyst for organisational improvement.
The Assistant Director will champion the organisation’s vision by developing a shared sense of purpose and direction across divisions to understand workforce capability requirements, develop strategies and implement formal professional learning programs that deliver the department’s objectives, including school improvement, curriculum, the early learning strategy, and any other system strategies requiring formal professional learning.
For our teaching workforce, Orbis will provide capability building in priority areas such as numeracy, literacy, curriculum, and other emerging priority areas. Orbis will also provide leadership for the capability building of our early career teachers and for teachers seeking certification as Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers. For leaders, Orbis will deliver programs designed to strengthen instructional leadership, as well as offer programs to develop the leadership capability of those with the potential and motivation to take on leadership roles in the future.
The Assistant Director will ensure that Orbis’ operating model is sustainable and maintains a clear focus on building the confidence and capability of our teachers and leaders. In addition to the design and delivery function, Orbis’ advisory function will provide advice and support to schools and preschools across the department to ensure that the procurement, design, delivery, and evaluation of locally led professional learning is world-class.
**To be successful you will need**:
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in leading teams and establishing a culture of performance, professionalism, and continuous improvement to drive world-class outcomes.
- Significant experience in capability building, preferably in an education context, and as a strategic change agent in a large and complex organisation.
- Experience successfully leading a complex, high profile function, and delivering results on time and on budget.
- Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with demonstrated success achieving change through collaborative practice and influence with stakeholders.
- Understanding of the education policy, landscape, and relevant factors pertinent to the South Australian public education system, and being able to successfully navigate to achieve outcomes
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to promoting and creating a safe and inclusive work environment, and the legislative requirements of Equal Opportunity and Work Health and Safety legislation.
**Qualifications**:
**Essential**: An appropriate tertiary qualification (e.g., teaching, leadership development or similar).
**Special Conditions**:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
