What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Communications Cabling Technician.
Chief Technology Officer (CIO) provides critical integrated, secure and effective information and communications systems and services to the AFP.
The Data Centre Operations (DCO) team manages and maintains the AFP’s underlying Mission Critical Infrastructure across all their secure environments, both nationally and globally. This responsibility extends across all layer one disciplines starting with power and cooling right through to Structured Cabling, Environmental Monitoring, and Security control down to the Rack level. This critical service not only supports CIO information and communications infrastructure but also plays a vital part in supporting all AFP Operations. This role is assigned to the Support Working Pattern.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
**As a valued member of the DCO team you will be required to**:
Possess and maintain strong level of data communications experience in the Commercial sector when it comes to installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing telecommunications distributed cabling
Be fully conversant across all areas of communication cabling including; Cat 6, Cat 6a, Cat 7, fibre optics, multi-pair voice cabling and jumpering.
Be competent in the use of fibre and copper test equipment, such as proficient use of OTDR as well as F Set and/or Fluke DTX Tester
Possess and maintain an in depth knowledge of testing copper and fibre structured cabling is a must.
Maintain a good understanding of carrier topologies especially ICON within the Canberra context
Follow industry standards in Forming, Dressing, Labelling and Patching of Copper/Fibre networks
Employ and maintain industry standards and best practices, resulting in a uniform, durable and high_level system performance
Play an active role to implement the best codes, standards, and practices to harmonize the standards
Collaborate with other teams on the installation of infrastructure-related activities
Termination and removal of all abandoned cables
Ensure that staff and contractors are delivering quality services;
Ensure that all internal client demands are being met;
Oversee the design and implementation of structured cabling improvements to the AFP’s Server Room facilities;
Work with the broader CIO Teams, consultants, architects, and client groups to ensure the Structured Cabling systems will meet the future AFP requirements
Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with layer one infrastructure or a related field.
ACMA Open Cabler Registration Licence with fibre/copper endorsements
Be available for 24/7 on-call roster to manage the rectification process for incidents
Additional Information
National travel will be required.
