Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services.
The campus is also home to The Kolling - a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney
**What you'll be doing**
A combined clinical and research 0.8 FTE Provisional Fellow position is available in Clinical Genetics at Royal North Shore Hospital for the 2025 Clinical Year for up to 12 months.
The successful applicant will be involved in paediatric, prenatal, adult and specialty outpatient genetics clinics, multi
- disciplinary meetings and inpatient consultations. Genetics Fellows participate in activities of the NSW Clinical Genetics inter-campus educational programs. Participation in teaching other junior staff is encouraged. The position also includes clinical research in neurofibromatosis.
Additionally, the position provides Advanced Trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education and training as well as research with support from the consultants and other health care professionals. The Provisional Fellow role is a leadership role within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students, members of the multidisciplinary team, and across the broader hospital community.
**Merit Selection**
NSW Health follows a merit-based recruitment and selection process as per Policy Directive PD2023_04 - Recruitment and Selection of Staff to the NSW Health Service.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Eligible to be registered with RACP (or equivalent) as an advanced trainee for 2025
- 3-6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent preferable
- Completion of mandatory training as required by RACP or equivalent (if applicant registered with RACP) preferable
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to be involved in research projects
- Demonstrated contribution to the development of hospital services e.g. participation in Paediatric Junior Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital, participation in Hospital Committees preferable
**Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases**
To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy PD2024_015, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
