SESLHD covers urban and suburban communities and manages eight public hospitals and one public nursing home:

- Sutherland Hospital
- Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital
- War Memorial Hospital (third schedule with Uniting Care)

SESLHD also operates 28 Child and Family Health Centres, 12 Community Health Centres and nine Oral Health Clinics; providing prevention, early intervention and community-based treatment, palliative care and rehabilitation services.

Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD.

Where you'll be working

The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality intensive care to patients in a complex clinical environment whilst participating in the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) training program, with the goal of obtaining fellowship of CICM.

St George ICU is an award winning state of the art Level 3 Intensive Care unit in a** **600-bed tertiary referral and the major trauma centre for SESLHD. The unit currently treats over 3000 patients each year (including 500 post-op cardiothoracic patients) and has 52 physical beds of which 36 beds are currently funded. Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the tertiary referral centre status of the hospital. In addition to the major trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and complex GI cancer surgery, the ICU provides an ECMO service.

There is an ICU-based echocardiography service with an opportunity for hands-on training and supervision for those seeking formal qualification in echocardiography. There is also a fully equipped simulation centre in the Intensive Care complex where regular multidisciplinary simulation sessions are held.

Advanced Trainees work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians to manage patients requiring intensive care, as well as those at risk of clinical deterioration. The position is flexible and has graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, development of skills in research and administration, and to build on skills and attributes acquired in the early years of training to assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice.

In addition to the accredited training program for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the unit also contributes to anaesthetics, surgery, physician and emergency medicine training. Advanced Trainees in the specialty of Intensive Care may be seconded to rotational positions in Anaesthesia or Medicine, according to their training requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

- Clinical duties as assigned by the Consultants on duty.
- Immediate management of ICU patients and assist in the day-to-day clinical management of patients in Intensive Care Unit.
- Attend consult calls from the wards, Emergency Department and Medical retrieval unit.
- Discuss all admission requests with the ICU Consultant/ Provisional Fellow
- Assist in liaising with the other teams involved in patient management.
- Participate in ALS team, Trauma team, and ICU Outreach program.
- Documentation of history and physical examination on admission and on a continuing daily basis.
- Ordering, follow-up, review and recording of investigations according to protocol and direction.
- Complete discharge summaries when directed by the Provisional Fellow/ Consultant on duty.
