About the organisation. At Allcare Youth Services, a division of Allcare Community Support, we create life changing connections that help all young people shine. Its sole purpose is to provide assistance & social inclusion opportunities for people in our community who are living with a disability.

Since 2001 Allcare Community Support has been providing support and social inclusion opportunities for members of the community. Through our Person Centered Approach, we aim to provide the best possible care and assistance to every person we support and the community in general.

Allcare Youth Services Program

Our program is targeted at young people (aged 7 to 25) who have been diagnosed with disability and who are NDIS eligible, and who are in need of support. We provide a safe environment to help build their confidence, get involved in their community, increase their resilience & open their minds to new possibilities.

We create long lasting matches that aim to develop the young person’s skills, explore their hobbies and get involved in their community. Our priority is to match you with a young person who has a shared interest and complimentary personality. We focus on empowering young people through choice and control to foster resilience and positive life choices within their community.

About you You are a passionate, empathetic, and respectful person who is looking to make a positive impact on the lives of others. You are able to connect and build a friendship with a young person. You have an understanding of the challenges faced by those with disability within their personal lives and community. You are level-headed, calm and have resilience and these qualities have helped you overcome challenges. You have a strong ability to work autonomously as required and take direction from your mentoring coordinator.

About the role

Key Responsibilities
- Develop a mutually co-operative, supportive and fun friendship
- Act as a positive role model and encourage new experiences and opportunities
- Support the independence and social participation of young person with disability
- Encourage a young person to reach their potential and goals through choice and control
- Enable young people with a disability to exercise choice and control in the pursuit of their goals and the planning and delivery of their supports
- Promote empowerment and the right of choice for all people in need of support within the community
- Encourage positive and socially appropriate behaviour, and effectively manage challenging behaviour
- Respect a young person’s dignity and right to privacy
- Maintain positive relationships with parent/guardians and respect their confidentiality/privacy
- Take reasonable care to ensure no risk of harm to self and others in the workplace. This includes immediately reporting any incidents, near miss, hazards and injuries
- Respond to crisis within specified guidelines and seek assistance to situations outside of specified guidelines
- Maintain regular contact with the nominated Coordinator and/or supervisor
- Complete case notes at the end of every shift
- Participate in ongoing training and support meetings

Selection Criteria
- Minimum of Certificate III in Disability, Mental Health, Welfare, Mental Health Peer Work, Youth Work, or two years relevant experience
- Level 2 First aid HLTAID003 (current) or willingness to obtain (including CPR)
- Initial document screening includes but is not limited to; NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Children Check, Right to work in Australia, Proof of Covid vaccination status according to government guidelines, or valid medical exemption
- Genuine interest in the wellbeing of young people
- Experience in managing people with a disability, who may have complex needs or challenging behaviours
- Ability to think laterally and manage stress and/or challenging situations to achieve positive outcomes
- Ability to develop a friendship with a young person and act as a positive role model
- Ability to work independently and meet the minimum requirements for contact
- Demonstrated superior customer service skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills

Time Commitment
- Available to work after school hours and/or on weekends

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $38.00 - $38.08 per hour
