**Project Overview**

Sydney Metro West is part of Australia’s biggest and most technologically advanced public transport project; Once completed, this fully accessible, driverless metro train service will tie Greater Parramatta and the Sydney Central Business District.

Revolutionising how people travel across Australia’s biggest city, Sydney Metro West will support employment growth and housing supply by doubling the rail capacity between the two areas, reducing journey times and linking more communities to rail services. The project is expected to create around 10,000 direct and 70,000 indirect jobs during construction. Sydney Metro West will include nine stations and deliver rail services for the first time to communities at Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays and Pyrmont. It will also provide faster, more frequent access to; major employment at Parramatta and The Bays; the vibrant sporting and entertainment precinct at Sydney Olympic Park; and vital health and education services at Westmead.

**Position Overview**

**Roles/Responsibilities**
- Guides, coaches, and motivates project personnel’s performance and those directly associated with implementing H&S processes, procedures, systems, methods, and policies critical to the success of H&S on multiple projects.
- Empowers personnel to work to their maximum capability and efficiency to ensure the success of H&S.
- Promotes integrity, technical competence, and commitment to H&S on multiple projects.
- Works with project and/or executive management on bid decisions, proposals, and estimates (scope, constraints, schedules, budgets) with respect to integration and compliance with H&S requirements.
- Provides technical support to feasibility studies, site assessment studies, and project risk assessments.
- Coordinates appropriate consideration of H&S requirements with subcontract, engineering, and construction personnel.
- Ensures that H&S plans are developed and implemented for projects or facilities within their area of responsibility in accordance with established policies, systems, processes, procedures and methods, client and/or host country requirements and regulations.
- Provides operational direction and functional supervision of work practices of Bechtel and other contractors/ subcontractors.
- Leads meetings, as necessary, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to communicate project-specific H&S mitigation plans, training programs, and complex technical reports.
- Stops work in dangerous situations or conditions having imminent adverse H&S impact. Stipulates acceptable work practices that are to be implemented before the work can be resumed.
- Manages and conducts project serious accident and/or fatality investigations and notifications; documents factors contributing to an incident and ensures the preparation of required reports.
- Participates, as directed by the Manager of Corporate H&S, project management and Legal and Risk Management, at hearings or litigations involving recent or past injuries, accidents or work-related illnesses that occurred on projects/facilities.
- Manages cross-training of personnel in professional or discipline-specific skills, techniques, and procedures.
- Manages operational direction and functional supervision of the medical/first aid treatment facilities on multiple projects.
- Provides operational direction and functional supervision for project H&S orientation and training of project manual/non-manual personnel on multiple projects.
- Ensures environmental compliance inspections of multiple projects’ construction activities are conducted to monitor compliance with environmental requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and Construction Environmental Control Plans (CECP).
