**Medical Specialist - Paediatrics**

**12.5 hours per week**

Join our collegiate General Paediatric service as a consultant Paediatrician in the beautiful cities of Ballarat and Horsham

Ballarat is a town of over 100,000 residents 90 minutes west of Melbourne, close to wineries, mountain hiking, spa towns and not far from coastal beaches. It also has a rapidly growing cultural life of its own, with plenty of restaurants, bars, music and theatre. We provide paediatric care to the Grampians Region extending to the South Australian border. There is a diverse range of patients that are often not managed directly by general paediatrics in the metropolitan setting, along with a high acuity neonatal throughput. We support our trainees to gain a true experience of general paediatrics. There is also a broad range of outreach services.

**About the role**

As a General Paediatrician, you will diagnose and manage a broad array of acute and chronic paediatric health issues, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to the children of Ballarat, Horsham and the surrounding regions.

Grampians Health Horsham has a children’s area on Yandilla ward and a level 3 Special Care Nursery of up to 2-4 beds. On site duties include ward rounds, support for ED staff in paediatric medical presentations, attending neonatal deliveries and ambulatory care. There is a paediatric HMO (PGY2) on rotation from Grampians Health Ballarat.

Grampians Health Ballarat Children’s ward ia a 20-bed Paediatric & Adolescent Unit and a 10-bed Level 4 Special Care Nursery. We also operate a Paediatric Day Medical Unit (embedded within the Paediatric Ward) and non-complex general, orthopaedic and ENT surgical services for children. We have 24-hour on-site staffing from Paediatric

Residents and Registrars, as well as 24-hour on call Paediatric consultant staffing provided by eight Paediatric Fractional specialists, as well as extensive public and private paediatric outpatient services. We currently see more than

60,000 presentations per year in our Emergency department, with over 17,000 of these under the age of 18 years.

**Key responsibilities**

The role includes both acute paediatric and neonatal work (Level 4 special care nursery in Ballarat) and being a member of a multi disciplinary team for health care professionals caring for children and young people within the Paediatric Diabetes service.

The role involves working closely with the paediatric registrars, HMOs, nursing and clinic staff and supporting education to our other Grampians sites.

**Skills and Experience**

Have recognised qualifications as a General Paediatrician with experience in managing patients across acute, general, developmental & behavioural paediatric medicine
. Requirements for the position are a current AHPRA registration and specialty recognition through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
. Have recent acute inpatient experience at Senior Registrar or Consultant leve
- l Preferably have experience in Adolescent medicine, Mental Health, the management of patients with diabetes
. Contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity & compassion, effective communication, accountability, innovation and ethical clinical care
