**Who we are**
Mail Policy and Operations & Finance develops policy and controls whilst delivering regulatory screening and inspections of international mail to manage biosecurity risks. The pathway also builds capacity within the Biosecurity Operations Division to assess, enable and support current and future business needs. The branch improves the capability of the division to deliver strengthened regulatory performance through the management of the division through ICT systems and reforms, the Project Management Office, ensuring the division has appropriate resources, corporate and governance arrangements, and change assessment and management.

The BOD Data & Automation (BDA) section oversees the divisions investment in, and adoption of, automation solutions that increase efficiency and accuracy, and improve staff experience. The section also delivers divisional data capability including reporting and analysis that connects decision makers to insights that better inform their decisions. These capabilities are supported by project management framework and business analysis.

**The Job**
Key responsibilities of this role include:

- Turning complex biosecurity data into clear information and insights.
- Write or amend scripts and code (e.g., SQL, DAX, M Query) to source and combine data from various sources.
- Interpreting requirements of operational, policy and executive business areas to create fit for purpose products to inform decision makers.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver high quality, self-service capabilities, and products in line with departmental guidelines.
- Support the validation and quality assurance process for products built by other data practitioners in the team.
- Contribute data to government briefings such as senate estimates, annual reports, question time briefs, ministerial, media releases and industry advice notices.
- Document methods and processes, with a focus on repeatability and consistency.
- Maintain and develop relationships with data practitioners across the organisation.

**What are we looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
The following knowledge and demonstrated experience is desirable:

- Qualifications or experience in one or more of the following -SQL, DAX, M Query and/or PowerBI.
- Experience in understanding business processes and converting data into actionable insights to inform decisions at operational and executive levels.
- Written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Operational experience in a regulatory environment would be well regarded.
