**Role Details**:
The Assistant Collection Manager assists the Senior Collection Manager, Earth Sciences, in the collection, preparation, identification, incorporation, loan, scientific study and interpretation of specimens in the South Australian Museum s Earth Sciences Collections and facilitates public and research access to the collection. Specifically, the Assistant Collection Manager will ensure that the David Vince Collection is registered, databased and incorporated into the Museum s Mineral Collection.

KEY OUTCOMES OF ROLE:

- Under the guidance of the Senior Collection Manager, ensure the Mineral collection is managed, developed, and reported on in line with strategic and collections management policies.
- In collaboration with the Collections Group and with other Collection Management staff in the Department, the proper care and storage of items in the Earth Sciences Collections is achieved, including providing collections management assistance in support of other collection areas when required.
- Digitisation processes are undertaken including databasing of collections associated information, establishment of standardised practices for data management, and imaging of collections.
- Ensure specimens in the Earth Sciences Collections are documented as far as practicable through maintaining, linking, and refining both paper-based and digital systems.
- Contribute to the promotion and interpretation of the Earth Sciences Collections to all stakeholders including conducting occasional tours of collection areas, presentations to groups, arranging and coordinating collections access, contributing to exhibitions development and collections-based publications, and participating in professional organisations and activities.
- Assist in managing, developing, and coordinating the activities and performance of volunteers, temporary staff/honoraries, and students.

**Special Conditions**:

- The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
- The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
- Some work outside of normal hours will be required.
- Some interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required
- This role requires a National Criminal History check.
- A relevant undergraduate degree and/or appropriate level of relevant mineralogical experience (essential).
- A B.Sc in Earth Sciences is desirable but not essential.
