The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a **Support Coordinator**to fill a vital role within the Stolen Generations Reparations Unit.

**About the Business Unit**

The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of the department is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector. The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) was established to implement the Reparations Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country. The team is committed to delivering a reparations process that is fully supported, accessible, transparent and trauma informed.

**You will also**:

- Provide timely and accurate responses to questions about eligibility to the package and explaining how the process will work.
- Provide culturally responsive case management, ensuring a wrap-around approach is offered to applicants in need of supports.
- Coordinate and action the implementation of appropriate and relevant cultural supports to programs and services.
- Facilitate applicant access to culturally safe counselling, legal advice, financial counselling and other support services as appropriate.

**_This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. _**

For Aboriginal Designated and Prioritised positions, a Certificate of Aboriginality (CoA) will be required prior to an offer of employment being made.

**About you**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- An understanding of both the principles of cultural safety and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.

**Qualifications/requirements**
- A relevant qualification or experience in health, Aboriginal community control, social work, counselling or psychology is desirable.
- Training in trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
