**TotalEnergies EP in Australia**

Our Australian story began in the early 1960s when TotalEnergies first decided to explore for oil and gas as part of the company’s global strategy to diversify from the traditional heartlands of Europe, Middle East and Africa. In 1963 TotalEnergies funded seismic activities in Australia’s Simpson Desert, the fourth-largest sand dune desert covering around 176,500km2 in central Australia. With limited access across this region, a road had to be built to provide support to the seismic activities. Today, this track remains one of the few ways of driving across the desert by four-wheel drive vehicle and is known locally as the “French Line”. Since that time, our upstream activities in Australia have varied from both onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration to exploration and production of other minerals such as uranium, coal and gold.

As a world leader in the LNG trade, Australia plays an essential part in realising our ambition. We are foundational investment partners in two large scale LNG projects: Gladstone LNG in Queensland, and Ichthys LNG, with operations offshore Western Australia and liquefaction operations in the Northern Territory. We plan to continue investing significantly in these projects to extend their production plateau and meet our long-term commitments to our customers, particularly in Japan, Korea, and Malaysia, and to decarbonise these assets.

In Renewables, TotalEnergies has a large portfolio of projects in solar, wind, and energy storage in development. We wish to capitalise on the development of renewables to fast-track the decarbonisation of our LNG assets. Such action will require massive investment to avoid and reduce CO2 emissions, e.g., through green electrification of the plants, and to sequestrate CO2 through investment in carbon capture and storage projects.
