Communications Specialist
Excellent professional development opportunities with great staff benefits.
- Immerse yourself in a wide variety of projects across multiple platforms.
- Be a part of the College's exciting transition to co-education.
**About the Position**
If you’re as happy editing and writing publications as you are with social platforms and taking photographs, you could be just the person we’re looking for. The role blends creative thinking with attention to detail, a love for great content, and the ability to form a close relationship with deadlines while juggling multiple projects at once. The Communications office is a fun, busy environment - but we want you to have a life away from work, so overtime is rare.
We’re looking for someone who loves working with words and images, knows a great story when they see it and understands how to tell it to our community on the right platforms. You’ll understand the importance of brand and tradition, but if you have a great idea for something new or a better way of doing things, we want to hear it. You’ll be a great communicator, writer, team player, accurate, fast and cool-headed.
With a minimum five years’ experience working in a hands-on, fast-turnaround content-led environment, you’ll work both independently and as part of a team of six people. We’re especially keen to hear from people with backgrounds in the media, publishing or similar education roles.
The Communications Specialist is a permanent full-time position that reports to the Director of Communications. The position will ideally commence in January 2025.
**About you**
- Tertiary qualifications, related experience or other qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism or a related discipline.
- Advanced computer skills, including experience with platforms such as Jira, Word Press and Campaign Monitor.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced proofreading and editing skills.
- Intranet and website content management and maintenance skills.
- High level interpersonal and professional presentation skills.
- Creative thinking, problem solving skills and a flair for good design, compelling stories and quality publications.
- High energy levels, drive and enthusiasm.
- Sound photography skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Well-developed project management skills.
- Well-developed team membership skills.
- Understand and adhere to the College’s Child Safeguarding policies and practices.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Child Safeguarding at Newington.

We want to ensure the College remains a vibrant, contemporary institution, in step with the society it is part of.
