About the role

AGL’s Environment Operations team have an exciting opportunity for an Environment and Compliance Manager - Construction.

Based in Newcastle, Sydney, Adelaide or Melbourne, you will be responsible for the implementation and management of regulatory approvals and strategies, ensuring construction projects are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and AGL standards.

What you’ll be doing:

- Overseeing compliance and governance of environmental requirements in the Project Management Framework from project development through construction to operations handover.
- Providing technical environmental advice to ensure compliance during construction, including identifying obligations, reviewing studies, contributing to risk assessments, supporting project execution, and escalating risks or non-compliance as needed.
- Preparing environmental regulatory reports (including Annual Performance Statements, Annual Reports required by endorsed Management Plans, National Pollution Inventory, Independent Audits and AGL Annual Sustainability Reporting).
- Providing advice and developing strategies with respect to environmental and cultural heritage regulatory matters, including identifying risks, methods for managing stakeholder relationships, and the implementation of requirements.
- Ensuring environmental incidents, hazards, and near misses are managed according to HSE procedures, oversee internal and external incident reporting, and monitor corrective actions for effectiveness and completion.
- Lead and mentor environmental advisors and contractors fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environment, Science or equivalent and experience in contractor management in a greenfield construction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively and appropriately with a diverse range and level of stakeholders, team members and leaders, including project delivery teams and operational sites and regulators.
- Proactive and energetic about leading and delivering against tasks and working with teams to achieve AGL’s goals and objectives.
- Extensive experience working with Project Teams to deliver projects in accordance with legislation requirements on time and within budget
- Strong compliance and risk management, project management, analytical and conceptual skills, and assurance experience.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
