Mortuary (Pathology) Aide

**Please note**: this position involves regular exposure to the bodies of deceased persons of all ages, often in all states of disfigurement, decomposition and/or disruption.
Key Responisibilities Include
- Safely perform movement of deceased with appropriate manual handling techniques.
- Handle hazardous substances in accordance with relevant procedures in a mortuary environment.
- Provide assistance to the pathologist with photography of deceased and collection, labelling and processing of specimens.
- Assist in thorough cleaning of autopsy theatres and refrigerated storage areas, including instruments and trays, replacing and laundering dirty/soiled linen, and washing of autopsy trolleys and benches to ensure a clean working environment is maintained that meets appropriate safety standards.
- Assist in the maintenance of mortuary consumables, equipment, instrumentation and ensure they are in appropriate working order.
- Assist in body storage audits and report storage capacities.
Key competencies
- Pathology laboratory experience with ability to follow both written and oral instruction and identify and solve problems methodically.
- Reliability, integrity, and professional attitude necessary for a medico-legal and potentially hazardous workplace.
- Sound judgement, ability to think critically, effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to work in a team and contribute positively to team outcomes.
- Ability to proactively maintain a safe, secure and clean working environment and an understanding of and willingness to contribute to the relevant systems, processes and procedures.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Valid Queensland Drivers Licence, Class C or equivalent
- Manual dexterity in the wrist and fingers, a steady arm and good near vision are beneficial when assisting in autopsies.
- The physical ability and knowledge of how to move, lift and turn human bodies (remains) and/or portions of bodies.
- You may be required to work in other mortuaries other than Coopers Plains.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
