Deli Assistant

**Position Title**: Delicatessen Assistant & Sandwich / Roll Maker

**Location**: Coogee, WA

**Reports to**: Deli Manager / Store Manager

**Job Type**: Casual / Part time conversion available
**Hours**: 15-25 per week, weekend availability a must
**Salary**: $32.50 + penalties (Fast food award)

**Position Summary**:
The Delicatessen Assistant & Sandwich Maker plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the delicatessen. This position is responsible for preparing a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads, and deli products, maintaining high standards of hygiene, and ensuring customers receive quality, made-to-order food in a timely manner. This role also involves assisting with stock management, food preparation, and maintaining a clean, organized, and inviting work environment.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Sandwich Preparation**: Prepare and assemble a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, and salads according to customer preferences or standard recipes while ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation.
- **Customer Service**: Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service to all customers, taking orders, answering inquiries, and offering recommendations.
- **Deli Counter Support**: Assist with cutting meats, cheeses, and other deli products to customer specifications. Weigh, slice, and pack deli items with attention to detail and accuracy.
- **Food Preparation**: Help with the preparation of other deli offerings, such as salads, cold cuts, soups, and hot foods, following health and safety standards.
- **Stock Management**: Monitor product levels, assist with stock rotation, and inform supervisors of inventory needs to ensure the deli section is fully stocked and organized.
- **Cleanliness and Safety**: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized work environment, adhering to all food safety guidelines and sanitation regulations.
- **Equipment Maintenance**: Operate deli equipment, such as slicers, ovens, and refrigerators, in a safe manner and assist with regular cleaning and maintenance.
- **Team Collaboration**: Work as part of a team to meet operational goals and ensure a seamless customer experience, particularly during busy periods.
- **Upselling and Product Knowledge**: Educate customers on product offerings, promotions, and specials, and encourage sales of complementary items.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Previous experience in food service, particularly in a delicatessen or sandwich-making environment, is preferred but not required.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
- Attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and hygiene.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

**Physical Demands**:

- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and lift up to 15 kilos.
- Ability to work in a kitchen or food service environment with exposure to hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cold storage.

Pay: $32.06 - $42.00 per hour
