
Disability Support Worker

Persons working within this role are responsible for using the strategies determined in the client's NDIS Plan/Home Care Package.
All practices are participant-focused and promote their choices, rights and decisions. Due to the variable nature of clients, this role requires the worker to promote clients' voices, choices and report any areas of concern. The client is at the centre of all practices.
Workers are required to follow all policies and procedures and report to management**:feedback from participants (positive, constructive and complaints)** changes in participant circumstances or environment **work health and safety issues and concerns** need for resources to undertake the role **if you think that the participant is experiencing discrimination, exploitation, neglect, abuse or violence** when unsure of appropriate practices **when unsure of actions that should be undertaken** stressed or anxious feelings
Provision of care and supports to clients as detailed in their support/care plans.
General
- Always check your understanding of the participant's required tasks before commencing your work.
- Implement personal hygiene and infection control procedures
- Be alert if you notice the client is distressed or apathetic (uninterested or listless)
- Adjust your tasks to meet client's needs, preferences and priorities
- Record all work as per the organisation's requirements
Work Practices
Duties will vary according to the client's support plan but may include:
- Assisting people to perform important daily activities
- Facilitating daily personal hygiene and dressing tasks
- Performing home-based tasks such as food preparation and housework
- Undertaking tasks outside the home such as shopping
- Ensuring varied programs of social activities
- Providing emotional support and friendship
- Report any real or potential risks of harm to a client
Communicate
- clearly, inclusively and respectfully adapt to client's age, culture and cognitive ability
- understand individual communication - verbal and non-verbal
- use the best communication method to recognise the difference between self and client
- be persistent and patient
Build trusted relationships
- build relationships based on mutual respect
- determine what makes the client feel safe and valued
- work with both client and their important people to understand how they are involved
- communicate directly with the client unless otherwise determined
- prioritise client's voice during any conflict
- treat equally but recognise the imbalance in the relationship
- recognise and report any threat in circumstances and environment
The position involves evening, overnight, weekend work and sleepovers. Workers may be required to work public holidays. Where GHA may have concerns that the employee’s level of fitness is adversely affecting his/her job performance, the organisation may, at its cost, require the employee submit to a Fitness Capacity Evaluation to ensure that neither the employee or a fellow employee or participant are placed at risk of injury. Employment in this position is conditional on the employee maintaining the following licenses, clearances and registrations:
a. 100 Points ID
b. First Aid Certificate
c. Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
d. Driver’s License e
e. Comprehensive Car Insurance
f. Police Check
g. Working with Children Check (for Paid Work)
h. NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC)
i. COVID-19 Training: Infection, prevention and control
j. COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
k. NDIS Modules
l. Experience with Autism (high end)
m. Able to do ADL's and able to do personal care (Bowel management support)
n. Able to follow protocols, self-initiative, and can manage BOC's.
o. To start ASAP. Will need to have a vehicle
**Job Types**: Casual, Contract
Pay: $30.61 - $40.26 per hour
