The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Drug Court is a statutory division of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and part of MCV Specialist Courts and Programs. The division provides an alternative sentencing option to offenders with drug and/or alcohol dependency who have committed offence/s whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol and/or to support their dependency.
**About the Role**
The Drug Court Registrar works with the Magistrate and a multi-disciplinary team within a solution focused court environment.
The role reports to the Drug Court Registry Manager and performs a wide range of administrative tasks in the Court registry. Tasks may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, participant-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, administrative responsibilities, and statistical and other reporting about the operations of the Drug Court.
Key accountabilities include:
- As a Registrar of the Magistrates' Court, performing all legal, administrative and quasi-judicial functions relating to the day-to-day and ongoing operations of the Court, under limited direction from the Drug Court Registry Coordinator and in collaboration with the Program Manager.
- Preparing reports and providing information and authoritative advice on court procedures and practices to relevant stakeholders including legal practitioners, police officers, corrections officers, government agencies, participants and the general public.
- Liaising with the judiciary, magistracy, external organisations, key stakeholders, groups and individuals that interface with the court.
- Operating relevant computer systems, including case-management systems such as Courtlink, PRAISE and CLMS and other technologies, and recording and video-conferencing equipment as required.
- Assisting with the direction, supervision and training of staff.
**About You**
- Certificate IV in Government(Court Services) or equivalent.
- Willing to travel to alternate sites as required.
