Laboratory Assistant

This position will work in collaboration with
other technical staff to provide an integrated
and highly responsive support service.

The position will assist with purchasing,
repairs and maintenance, logistics,
preparation, clean-up, sourcing, data collation
and warehousing. The position will require
basic knowledge of mechanical components.

This position reports to the Supervising
Technician - Engineering Precinct for
supervision, workload management and for
Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Provide general technical assistance in the

Engineering Precinct laboratory operations
in alignment with policies and procedures to
enable efficient support of teaching,
research and engagement activities.
- Assist with purchasing, repairs and

maintenance, logistics, preparation, clean
- up, sourcing, data collation and
warehousing.
- Identifying resource and facility

developments to support continuous
improvement.
- Contribution to the development of a

collaboration service culture.
- Engage in opportunities for professional

development to ensure knowledge and
skills are aligned with contemporary
industry practice.
- Proactively implement and adhere to the

University’s HSE policies and procedures
and the obligations defined by the Work
Health and Safety Act 2011 for laboratory
work.

To ensure job flexibility the successful
- appointee may be required to:
- perform any other duties as nominated by

the University consistent with the relevant
classification descriptors detailed in the
Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking
any new duties will receive training;
- participate in job rotation or multiskilling in

consultation with their supervisor;
- work across campuses.

**Type of appointment**
This appointment will be offered on an
ongoing, full-time basis.

Selection Criteria
1. Completion of an associate diploma with

relevant work related experience in
mechanical/civil engineering environments
or a certificate level qualification with post
- certificate relevant work experience in
mechanical/civil engineering environments.

2. Proven ability to prioritise tasks and work
collaboratively to achieve team based
outcomes whilst embracing and
participating in change.

3. Demonstrated ability to provide quality
client service through contributing to
building a safe and caring environment for
our people

4. Proven ability to analyse, problem solve
and critically evaluate equipment.

5. Demonstrated ability to connect and
collaborate with a range of diverse groups
(including those whose first language is
other than English), and work effectively
within a team, in a demanding and high
paced environment.

6. Proven ability in the use of correct manual
handling techniques and/or physical aids
as well as a current C class driver’s licence

7. Ability to actively participate in and
contribute to establishing and maintaining
an effective culture of caring for our people
and environment.

**Remuneration and Benefits**
- The classification for this position is Higher
- Education Worker Level 4 (HEW4) which has
- an annual remuneration range of $76,919 to
- $80,897 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual
- salary range of $64,998 to $68,359 pa, 17%
- superannuation, and leave loading.
