**About us**

The Youth Justice team provides community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court, Children's Koori Court and adult criminal courts and who have been placed on youth justice supervised orders.

**About the role**

Children's Court Youth Diversion provides a brief intervention that is tailored to a young person's individual circumstance and proportionate to the circumstances of the offence/s before the court. A diversion may contain a range of conditions, these are underpinned by the principles of diversion and targeted to promote reparation of harm caused by the offence/s.

The Children's Court Youth Diversion (CCYD) coordinator ensures children and young people before the Children's Court of Victoria are supported to access and complete youth diversion. The CCYD coordinator attends scheduled sittings of the Criminal Division of the Children's Court to conduct same-day assessments following a magistrate's referral, advise the court on suitability for diversion and report back to the court on a young person's compliance with the court's direction.

**About You**
- a proven understanding of the youth justice system, particularly the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program.
- an advanced understanding of the principles of case management and case work and be able to utilise a range of assessment and interventions relevant to the age, gender, developmental stage, cultural background and offending related needs of the young person.
- excellent stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills in order to achieve organisational objectives.
- Excellent written communication skills for the development of court reports, case notes and other formal documentation.
- An in-depth knowledge of restorative justice would be beneficial.

Qualifications at a Bachelor or Diploma level will be considered only if it includes units of study in case management/casework practice and has supervised practical placements.

A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
