
Advocate (Remote)

We are seeking an advocate to assist a physically disabled young woman, who is affected by chronic pain and mobility limitations. The client currently requires advocacy in dealing with several government organisations, including the NDIS, social housing, and legal services. These government organisations have failed to recognise the client's disability support needs, leading to complex appeals processes, for which the client requires assistance.
All of the work can be completed remotely/online.
**Duties will include**
- Online research about government policy and administrative law
- Analysing government breaches of policy
- Providing information to the client
- Writing appeals submissions
- Communicating with the client remotely
- Transcribing voice recordings from the client
- Preparing grants submissions to non profit organisations
- Advocating for the client in day to day dealings with social welfare agencies
**Requirements**:
- Experience in a similar role, e.g. as a paralegal, grant-writer, etc.
- Existing knowledge about Public Policy
- Skills in writing persuasive texts
- Substantial legal skills
- Availability for approx. 20 hours per week, preferably Monday - Friday
- Advanced written and spoken English-language skills;
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
- A law student
- Recent law graduate
- Applicants with experience in the legal system (e.g. paralegal, court/tribunal clerk, etc)
- Former staff within public or not-for-profit sectors
- Experienced writers or similar
- Current or former NDIS support coordinators
