**About the School**:
Keebra Park was established in 1973 in the south-west corner of Southport. The location is spectacular with the school built on the crest of a hill and with expansive playing fields stepped on three lower levels. There is also six hectares of native forest abundant in wildlife.
Keebra is an Aboriginal word for young people. This highly valued group, through teaching and play learnt social and survival skills to contribute to the community. At Keebra we share similar aims and our friendly and dedicated staff provide an outstanding academic and sporting education.
**Role**:As the Youth Support Coordinator, Identified you will**:
- Refer at risk students to appropriate agencies and support services that will assist students to overcome barriers to education and training.
- Provide individual support, case management and, where appropriate, group support to students to maximise their engagement with education and training.
**Responsibilities include**:
- Identify barriers to young people achieving outcomes and referral to appropriate support services.
- Support students to achieve satisfactory learning outcomes.
- Develop and monitor post program support as required to meet program performance criteria.
**Desired Qualifications and Skills**:
- Demonstrated experience working with young people, particularly Indigenous youth, in a supportive capacity.
- Understanding of the social, emotional, and cultural needs of Indigenous students, with a commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students, families, and community members.
- Knowledge of relevant support services, agencies, and resources available to young people and their families.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with flexibility, empathy, and resilience.
- Maintain accurate records, report writing and data entry requirements in line with professional standards.
- Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, education, or a related field.
**Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role**:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
