Position Title Early Learning Centre (ELC) Co-Educator

Time Based on the needs of the ELC, as negotiated
Reporting to Director of the Early Learning Centre (ELC)

Role Description
The Walford Early Learning Centre (ELC) Co-Educator collaborates with other ELC staff in the
planning and implementation of the education and care program for children in the ELC, aged
three to five years. They work closely with, and under the direction of, ELC teaching staff and
the Director of the ELC, including preparation of the room and materials for lessons, facilitation
of learning, inquiry and documentation of learning for small groups of children, assistance with
the supervision and care of children, and support of the ELC’s children, staff, programs and
facilities.

The Co-Educator helps to promote an environment that enables each child to feel safe and
achieve his or her potential. They work alongside other ELC staff to ensure the delivery of the
Centre’s program is in accordance with the National Quality Framework and the National
Quality Standards.

General

Learning and Teaching Support
- Work alongside the Walford ELC Director and ELC teachers to plan, implement

and evaluate children’s development and learning.
- Supervise children’s activities in a vigilant and responsible manner.
- Facilitate intentional play, learning activities, learning observations and daily

routines with small groups of children, in consultation with the direction of
Walford ELC Director and ELC teachers.
- Assist with and take initiative in presentation of learning environments in

collaboration with ELC teachers.
- Prepare relevant experiences, materials, and resources at the direction of Walford

ELC Director and ELC teachers.
- Contribute to collaborative planning and review of learning programs with other

Walford ELC staff.
Administration
- Adhere to all ELC policies and procedures.
- Ensure parents follow sign in and sign out procedures.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping of attendance and incidents.
- Report injuries or hazards to the teacher and Director of the ELC.
- Make observations of and document children’s learning and development at the

direction of Walford ELC Director and ELC teachers.

Pastoral Care
- Take a genuine interest in the children and respect their diverse backgrounds,

experiences, abilities and needs.
- Promote the health and safety of the children, taking initiative to ensure this

when necessary.
- Support a safe and supportive environment by following the ELC’s Behaviour

Management Policy.
Communication
- Liaise in a professional and positive manner with other staff.
- Engage in appropriate, regular and ongoing communication with parents and

caregivers.

Professional Learning
- Attendance at Walford Early Learning Centre staff professional development

activities.
- Participate in a program of continued professional learning.
- Participate in a regular performance review process, including observation and

reflection.
