The Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. More than 40 years on, our vision remains unchanged - to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research.
The Leukaemia Biology group at Children’s Cancer Institute undertakes highly translational research focused on the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of high-risk and drug-resistant acute leukaemia in children. This position will involve preclinical drug testing using mouse xenograft models as part of an NCI (USA)-funded program.
**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
- You carry out preclinical drug testing using an in vivo mouse model of leukaemia.
- You conduct research as a member of a team and are supervised by the Program Officer.
- You assist with planning and coordination of research efforts.
- You contribute to high quality publications.
- You contribute to laboratory maintenance.
**Qualifications, experience, and skills required**:
Essential:
- Experience in the use of animals for scientific research.
- Scientific degree with Honours or equivalent degree in related area.
- Solid knowledge and experience working within a laboratory environment.
- Ability to interpret and communicate results to the supervisor and research group.
- Ability to work independently and or as a member of a team.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in molecular biology and cell culture.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct experiments.
- Interest in the field of Cancer Research.
