**Role Description/Criteria**
About the role:
The Technician is part of the Science Learning Area which supports the mission, vision, and values of the College community. The technician’s role is responsible for assisting and supporting the teachers in the Science Learning Areas with a range of practical lessons, advice, support, preparation of class materials and setting up of each class as well as ensuring that all science equipment in the College is functional and fit for the purpose(s) for which it is intended. The successful applicant will report directly to the Science Learning Leader and work alongside the passionate team committed to achieving positive learning outcomes for each student. The successful applicant will work across multiple secondary years levels.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for:
Assisting the Science Learning Leader or delegate with the effective delivery of programs and special projects.
Assisting in the development and creation of teaching resources.
Working with science staff on their needs for practical work
Advising and assisting science teaching staff in safety matters
Advising science staff on suitability of types of practicals, use of chemicals, expense and safety
Assisting teaching staff with demonstrations, practicals and technical components of the curriculum as requested
Informing science teaching staff of risks and dangers associated with equipment and chemicals (refer them to risk assessment and MSDS’s provided with each practical)
Adhering to all Child Safety legislation and College requirements.
The successful applicant will have:
Proven high level of work standards
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
High organisation skills
Ability to prioritise workloads
Ability to work as part of a small team
Demonstrated comprehensive level of oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Relevant qualifications/experience in a science area
A current Working With Children Clearance and National Police Record History Check and is a suitable person to engage in child-connected work
