Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (the Court) plays a significant role in the overall response to family violence by aiming to enhance the safety of women and children and holding perpetrators accountable.
The Family Violence Registrar contributes to the Court's response to family violence, working alongside the judiciary, court registrars, support workers, police, legal services and other support services to effectively manage cases involving victims and perpetrators of family violence. The Family Violence Registrar builds relationships with key stakeholders, establishes and maintains links with community services and agencies in their local area, promotes information sharing amongst agencies and makes appropriate referrals.
About You
The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement. The Family Violence Registrar provides a point of specialist contact for court users involved in proceedings arising from or including allegations of family violence, assists parties to understand court processes and services available, and liaises with all legal and non-legal support services.This position works collaboratively with the Court Coordinator regarding the listing of matters that relate to family violence and intervention orders. As part of the network of Family Violence Registrars, the role also works collaboratively with the Family Violence Programs and Initiatives Unit to improve service delivery.The Family Violence Registrar leads the Court's family violence team within their region, in conjunction with senior management. They will provide supervision and monitor the performance of the members of this team.
**You will**:
- Exercise a range of administrative, statutory and quasi-judicial powers as a Registrar in accordance with the Magistrate' Court Act 1989 and other relevant Acts, rules and regulations.
- Coordinate cases within the family violence and intervention order jurisdiction, including family violence related criminal matters where appropriate.
- Prepare written correspondence, reports, presentations and briefings on complex family violenceissues, for a range of audiences including managers, magistrates and community groups.
- In partnership with senior management, review, develop and deliver family violence education for other court staff and arrange and monitor professional development for support workers to support best practice within the family violence and intervention order jurisdiction.
- Contribute to the Magistrates' Court's Family Violence Registrar network to support and enhance consistency in practice across the state.
- Monitor case flow management indicators to help ensure performance targets are met, and that any barriers to achieving objectives are addressed.
- Develop and implement local practices to improve the operation of the family violence jurisdiction, and other related jurisdictions, and the coordination of services at court.
