**Casual Disability Support Worker**
POSITION SCOPE
Disability Support Workers will be flexible and multi-skilled enabling effective participation and performance for quality program delivery to each client to meet their individual needs and to develop client skills.
An employee in this Level:
- Will work under general supervision and will be required to exercise some judgement in regular independent decision making.
- Will be responsible for a group of clients
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Under general Supervision with regular independent decision making:
Service Delivery
- Provide ongoing program support and skills training to assist persons with a disability
- Undertake the duties necessary to develop and implement programs for people with disabilities.
- Develop and organise well founded, reliable and individual program plans, support plans and behaviour support plans for a person with a disability in consultation with the service user and their family or carers.
- Practise a wide range of tasks in a variety of contexts.
- Be involved in identifying and solving a variety of problems of a complex nature in a variety of contexts
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to clients, colleagues and the Organisation
- To be aware of health and safety requirements and committed to participating in implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
- To observe the rules of duty of care to provide a safe physical and emotional learning environment and to report and record all accidents and incidents.
- To attend and participate in all staff meeting.
- To observe and adhere to hours of duty and rostered duties as directed.
- To attend training sessions and educational activities where appropriate in order to increase training skills which will be beneficial to clients, and their personal care.
- To work as part of a team, liaising and sharing information with other staff members to enhance client development.
- In instances where more than one instructor works with a group of clients share the responsibility of the group with other workers.
- To be creative and innovative to facilitate learning, skills acquisition and enjoyment for clients.
- To act as an ambassador for the Centre
- To be responsible for work place and storage in relation to cleanliness and safety. To report defects that require maintenance and/or repairs.
- To be responsible for the appropriate care and cleanliness of the organisation’s vehicle. To report to the Support Services Manager when service is due and if there is any noticed mechanical or structural problems. To report to CEO if you are involved in any accident.
- To perform all other reasonable duties as negotiated.
Administration
- Complete the required paperwork relating to the evaluation of programs and the client’s performance.
- Maintain client records that are relevant to the functions performed
- Ability to manage time, take initiative and work independently
- Handle organisational correspondence
- Provide information as required
Organisational
- To attend and participate in staff meetings and staff education programs as requested
- Abide by Menzies Support Services’ Policies and Procedures.
- To ensure that the confidentiality of clients is respected and upheld at all times.
- To be actively involved in Menzies Support Services’ corporate activities, including Planning, Quality Assurance, Risk Management and Occupational Health and Safety.
- Actively promote the Service, including amongst community groups.
- Exhibit specific liaison skills with people with disabilities, their families/carers, specialist staff and other community agencies/services
- Develop cooperative working relationships and alliances with other organisations
- Other Duties as directed
CORE COMPETENCIES, ATTRIBUTES AND CAPABILITIES
Computer Skills
- Working knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer.
Leadership and Management
- Ability to manage time, to take initiative and to work independently.
- Ability to manage competing priorities;
- Ability to plan work schedules, prioritise work and complete tasks on schedule
Interpersonal Skills
- Well developed written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to liaise effectively with service staff, clients and their families, community groups and external services
- Ability to negotiate and gain co-operation and support of others in a team environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Certificate IV Disability, Certificate IV Ageing Support, Certificate III Individual Support, related qualification or relevant industry experience.
