**The Team**

The Australian Equities Research Team focuses on producing high quality and insightful research on listed companies and industry sectors in the Australian region, as well as on global thematic trends impacting sectors under coverage. The team looks to build long-term relationships with, and provide research and analysis to, regional and global institutional investment firms, listed and unlisted companies and key industry players. We require an Analyst / Associate to join the Building Materials & Chemicals team.

**The Role**

An opportunity exists for a Research Analyst to join our well rated and dynamic Australian Research team, supporting the lead analyst in covering stocks within the Building Materials & Chemicals sectors.

This role is based in Sydney, and represents an opportunity to learn equity research and fundamental business analysis at one of the leading global equity research houses.

**Responsibilities**
- Actively track, maintain and build upon the understanding of the covered companies, their respective sectors and their competitors;
- Maintain and update financial models, industry databases and valuation files. The job involves creating new financial models and industry databases from time-to-time as part of the research endeavor;
- Writing company updates, sector “deep-dives” and other differentiated research reports on the covered companies and sectors;
- Assisting firm’s clients with data requests, industry and financial information, etc.;
- Assisting in the design and preparation of the analyst marketing materials;
- Collaborating with domestic, regional and global colleagues on cross sector and cross regional research projects;
- Developing relationships and interacting with colleagues in research, equity sales and trading, as well as institutional clients, investor relations, company management and other industry participants; and
- Over time, take complete ownership of research projects on individual companies and sub-sectors within the coverage universe.

**Preferred Background and qualifications/skills**
- Excellent academic record with a degree in Finance, Accounting or related field;
- 2+ years of relevant work experience - preferably in a banking, sell-side equity research, buy-side, consulting or a building materials related field;
- Excellent financial modelling skills and a solid grounding in financial/accounting fundamentals;
- Ability to interpret and analyze company’s financial statements, announcements and industry news in order to write research report from the findings;
- Attention to detail, self-driven to deliver results and willingness to take responsibility for the outcomes are essential for the role;
- Highly motivated, proactive, curious and a high level of enthusiasm for research and markets; and
- Demonstrated ability to think logically, generate ideas and exercise good judgment.
