**The Role**
You’ll be working within the Communication Branch, co-leading a team of graphic designers and collaborating with communication specialists to support the work of the department. Reporting to the Director, Campaigns and Creative Services, the Assistant Director Design is responsible for oversight of the department’s internal graphic design function.

It’s a fast-paced and friendly environment with a team of experienced specialists who are accomplished in a range of communication disciplines.

You will lead your graphic design team and work with communication strategists and our clients to produce innovative and fit for purpose design solutions for the department and Ministerial offices.

You will work with all areas of the department to develop and drive user-focused content across both traditional and digital media, with a particular focus on contemporary digital design techniques and technologies. You will also play a key role in supporting and managing client expectations, risk management and mitigation strategies and take the primary lead on the design initiatives within the department.

Managing a variety of priorities simultaneously, you must be capable of leading a team and leading all creative aspects of a project. As well as being a great designer, you will demonstrate strong organisational abilities, strategic thinking and communication skills.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
You will lead and manage a small team of designers, providing high quality graphic design and creative services and solutions to internal clients and our Ministers’ Offices. This includes:

- Conceptualising, leading and developing design solutions that integrate print, digital display, video/animation, social media and photography.
- Providing oversight of the team’s day to day work to ensure quality team design outputs are produced and making decisions about priorities and work allocation.
- Providing advice to clients on branding, accessibility and compliance with relevant standards.
- Provide direction and advice on visual design matters to internal clients and our Ministers’ Offices.
- Lead and manage design jobs and projects.
- Prioritise workloads and create detailed timelines where necessary to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
- Foster a positive team culture and build individual and team capability.
- Monitor and continuously improve business processes and practices.

**Qualifications and Education**
This position requires qualifications in graphic design and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a graphic designer.
