Uses problem-solving skills, tact, and discretion to oversee and direct the Meat Department and its staff. Schedules, staffs, trains, coaches, counsels, and reviews the Meat Department’s personnel during daily activities, continually developing the employees. Works in communication with various levels of management to resolve issues. Implements and upholds proper Meat Department and general safety procedures and standards. Determines production requirements. Approves and submits physical inventory and orders to buying office. Coordinates proper maintenance and repairs for machinery and equipment.

**Job Duties/Essential Functions**
- Develops, coaches, counsels, and directs Meat Department personnel. Monitors employee performance. Provides proactive feedback to promote teamwork and accountability among employees. Participates in the employment process by making recommendations for hiring, promotion, and termination. Participates in Meat Department employee evaluations. Responds to employee concerns using problem solving skills, tact, and discretion in accordance with the Costco Employee Agreement and other applicable regulations. Approves timecards and other reports. Implements and upholds proper Meat Department and general safety procedures and standards.
- Reviews department profit and loss statement. Develops and implements sales and merchandising plan for department.
- Determines production requirements and participates in meat cutting. Checks quality and consistency of finished merchandise. Oversees merchandise presentation and merchandising.
- Reviews sanitation log and checks for health code compliance.
- Approves and submits physical inventory periodically and orders to buying office for equipment, merchandise and supplies.
- Follows Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) guidelines as it refers to proper cleaning and sanitation of all equipment required by this position. Completes and complies with 11 Commandments of Quality Assurance, Food Safety Certification and all safety training required by warehouse and Meat department.
- Coordinates and implements proper maintenance and repairs for machinery and equipment.
- Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.
- Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees and vendors.

**Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery**
- Computer, copier, phone, band saw (if trade qualified butcher), tenderiser, grinder and wrapper.

Education/Training:

- High School Certificate or higher; or Trade Qualification

Licenses/Certifications:

- Butcher Trade Certificate (preferable)

Other Skills and Abilities:

- Management experience in Butchery or comparable experience
- Meat Department, meat cutting or comparable experience.
- Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and AS400
- Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal and organisation skills
- Problem solving and critical thinking
- Basic math skills

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Full COVID-19 vaccination or medical contraindications certificate
- If successful, you will be required to undertake role & department specific training within specified timeframes
